All stun guns work basically the same way. They
take in power from 1 or more batteries and amplify it.
When the stun gun is pressed against the target's body
and "fired" it releases this voltage out its
electrodes into the target.
For the
stun gun to work you must press it against
the attacker's body and bare skin is best. This means
they will be close to you and can even be touching or
holding onto
you and still the current will NOT pass through to your body!
So he'll get zapped but you won't.
For a more technical explanation. All stun gun models
use high voltage and very low amperage to temporarily
disable an attacker for several minutes if stunned
long enough.
A stun gun doesn't rely on just pain for its results, instead the energy
stored in the stun gun is dumped into your attacker’s muscles causing
them to do a great deal of work very rapidly. This rapid work cycle
instantly depletes the attacker’s blood sugar by converting it into a
lactic acid.
This means that the attacker's body is unable to produce energy for
his muscles so they are unable to function properly. A stun gun shock
also interrupts the tiny neurological impulses that control voluntary
muscle movement. When the attacker’s neuromuscular system is
overwhelmed and controlled by the stun gun he loses his balance.
Effects of being stunned by a Stun
Gun
A 1/2 second shock from a stun gun will startle
assailants giving a painful muscular contraction.
A 1-2 second shock from a stun gun will cause painful
muscle spasms and a dazed mental state.
A 3-5 second shock from a stun gun will cause loss of muscle
control causing the assailant to lose their balance. It also causes
total mental confusion and disorientation leaving the attacker dazed
for a few minutes.
